Here is what we learned at pre-op:
-Gelly's VSD (hole in her heart) is actually a lot bigger than suspected. It is 4mm.
-We learned that the “velocity” of the blood shooting out of the hole is pretty forceful on her heart tissue, and something about that has increased her risk for getting endocarditis (infection of the heart). So, the sooner it is closed, the better.
-She does have some damage to a ventricle.
-The surgeon will try to suture the hole closed using her own tissue, avoiding a patch.
But mostly what we learned, is that God has kept her healthy for quite a long time. That the healing that will come through surgery is a gift that we happily and gratefully accept.
Her surgery will begin Monday at 12:45 and will take approximately 5 hours.
She is second on the surgery list (a little newborn baby boy with a heart defect is before her…and we will be praying for him too).
Please lift our little Gelly-gopper up in prayer. We are grateful.

Hi Ginger. I'm Heather from LHE. Our baby daughter had heart surgery at Riley with Dr. Turrentine last Nov for a VSD. I'll be praying for you all this weekend and next week.
Praying! <3
I'm praying for you all! Remember Who is really in control of it all!
I'm praying too!
Howdy Bryans, its your Nifty buddy Havelah!
I wanted to post for the first time on your beautiful blog that I will be in fasting prayer for Gelly- gopper (Love the name; have no idea where you got the gopper, but its a cute addition) and I wanted to inform you that after the surgery Gelly will receive a visit from nurse named Sarah Divine, a nursing buddy of mine and a close friend in my Collage and Career class at church. After challenging my Sunday School class to pray for a steady, prepared and safe surgery Sarah approached me and said since she is working the same day and serves near Gelly's wing, she would be more than happy to visit Gelly after the surgery! I pray you get to meet each other. May God uphold you all during this time of restlessness and praise for His covenant that all things "will" work together for good to those that love the Lord always!
